Dr. Nour Al-Malki: Leadership in Surgery, Research, and Patient Care

Dr. Nour Al-Malki is a Consultant General Surgeon whose work brings together surgical care, healthcare leadership, and scientific research. Her focus is practical: improving how surgical services support patients and helping clinical teams turn evidence into better care.

She serves as Consultant General Surgeon within Riyadh First Health Cluster, Head of Operating Rooms at Al-Iman General Hospital, and founder and Chair of the hospital’s Scientific Research Committee. These responsibilities connect her work with individual patients to the broader decisions that shape surgical services and clinical research.

Al-Malki holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from King Saud University, a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery from the University of Alberta, Canada, and the Saudi Board in General Surgery through the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. Her academic background combines specialist surgical training with a foundation in scientific inquiry, informing both her clinical judgment and her approach to healthcare improvement.

Her professional development includes Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and Green Belt specializations, alongside training in healthcare operational excellence and training of trainers. These complement her clinical qualifications with skills in quality improvement, organizational performance, and professional education.

As Head of Operating Rooms, Al-Malki works across specialties to strengthen patient safety, improve access to surgery, and support effective use of hospital resources. She also contributes to the development of a coordinated day-surgery model across hospitals within the cluster, with the aim of expanding access and reducing waiting times.

Through the Scientific Research Committee, she has helped establish research governance and processes that support healthcare professionals in developing clinical questions into structured studies. Her emphasis is on research that addresses the problems teams encounter in practice and produces knowledge relevant to patient care.

Mentorship and supporting women in medicine are also part of her professional commitment. She seeks to help colleagues develop their capabilities and take on meaningful roles in research and leadership.
