In Saudi Arabia’s rapidly evolving financial technology landscape, strong governance and regulatory alignment are critical to sustainable innovation. Eng. Khalid AlZaini has built a distinguished career at this intersection—combining regulatory expertise, corporate governance leadership, and strategic vision to support technology-driven organizations navigating complex regulatory environments.

Through his leadership across fintech, telecommunications, and entrepreneurship ecosystems, AlZaini has consistently focused on building robust governance structures, enabling regulatory alignment, and fostering sustainable organizational growth in line with the Kingdom’s broader economic transformation.

Governance and Regulatory Leadership at Foodics

Currently serving as General Manager of Corporate Governance and Regulatory Affairs at Foodics, Eng. AlZaini leads governance frameworks, regulatory strategy, and public policy initiatives in a fast-growing fintech environment.

His role includes overseeing regulatory capital, licensing frameworks, and supervisory regulatory reviews, while ensuring that governance across Foodics and Foodics Pay aligns with international standards and Saudi regulatory expectations. He also leads strategic engagement with regulatory bodies and government institutions, ensuring that innovation and compliance evolve together in a highly regulated sector.

Previously, as Executive Director of Regulatory and Government Affairs for Foodics Global, he led initiatives to align international regulatory frameworks, reduce compliance complexities, and strengthen collaboration between regulators and fintech entities. He also contributed to the company’s governance readiness through roles in Risk and Audit committees and as a member of the IPO Committee, supporting strategic preparation for potential capital market entry.

Building Governance from the Ground Up

One of the defining aspects of Eng. AlZaini’s leadership has been his ability to design governance and compliance frameworks from the ground up.

As GRC Director, he established the full compliance and controlling functions framework for Foodics Pay, defining roles, responsibilities, and governance structures across key operational areas. His work also enhanced organizational understanding of central bank governance requirements, significantly raising compliance maturity levels within the organization.

Earlier in his career at Foodics, he played a critical role in securing the sandbox license from Saudi Central Bank for Foodics Pay in 2020. This regulatory milestone enabled the platform to transition into a fully regulated fintech entity, positioning it among the pioneering regulated fintech solutions in Saudi Arabia.

By coordinating cross-functional teams, preparing regulatory documentation, and aligning company processes with SAMA requirements, AlZaini helped establish governance structures that support both regulatory compliance and business scalability.

Operational Leadership and Capability Development

Before taking full responsibility for governance and regulatory affairs, Eng. AlZaini held leadership roles in People Operations and Business Administration at Foodics, where he helped establish operational systems supporting the company’s expansion across the Kingdom.

During this period, he developed operational frameworks for investment plans involving all-in-one POS systems and payment devices, while also implementing Operational Excellence Systems and HR governance structures through digital platforms such as ZenHR.

Earlier in his career, he spent several years at Mobily, where he led initiatives in training, compliance, and capability development. His work involved designing standardized training programs for thousands of employees, improving operational quality across more than 100 sales outlets, and leading quality-control projects that enhanced both employee performance and customer experience.

This early experience in people development and operational systems continues to influence his governance philosophy—ensuring that compliance frameworks are understood, adopted, and actively practiced across organizations.

Entrepreneurial and Ecosystem Impact

Beyond his corporate leadership roles, Eng. AlZaini is also active in Saudi Arabia’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem.

He co-founded TDICS, which provides talent development and behavioral assessment solutions based on the DISC model. Through TDICS, he supports organizations in strengthening workplace culture and improving talent alignment.

His work also extends to supporting startups through Monsha’at and the Badir Program, where he has contributed to developing talent programs, business development strategies, and growth frameworks aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.

Additionally, through his involvement with Endeavor, he mentors founders on governance, capability building, and scaling strategies that balance innovation with long-term sustainability.

Strategic Education and Leadership Perspective

Eng. AlZaini holds a Business Administration degree from Al Yamamah University and has further strengthened his leadership capabilities through executive education programs at global institutions including Harvard University and Stanford University.

His studies in strategy, innovation, scaling entrepreneurial ventures, and AI-driven digital disruption reflect his commitment to understanding how technology and governance intersect in modern business environments.

In addition to his corporate and academic achievements, he is an experienced communicator and leadership coach, having served as president and charter member of Toastmasters International clubs in Dhahran.
